Project

Mint

Mint is a faculty-supervised, student-run graphic design studio. Beginning in Spring 2020, I worked as a student designer. Beginning in Fall 2020, I worked alongside Jenna Agres to co-create a series of collage and poetry workshops for Project Youth Build students, staff, and alum.

Project YouthBuild

“Project YouthBuild is an educational, occupational, and leadership program for young people with low incomes who have dropped out of school. Students have the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, multiple nationally recognized construction or CNA credentials, and a post-secondary scholarship; all while giving back to their community.”

Workshop Team

The workshop team works to engage PYB students in activities that will promote connectedness, introspection, and create happy moments.

Research (Fall 2020)

Our team spent a year working with Project Youthbuild. The first semester was dedicated to learning the history of the space and connecting with student, staff, and alum through interviews.

Deliverables from that semester included a list of core values and identity marks. The pictures above record that time.

Design Problem (Fall 2020): Navigating how we can foster connection during a pandemic. (It was hard!)

We created an identity for the Mint Workshop Team. Through a cohesive identity, PYB students could recognize Mint’s materials, presentations, and upcoming events.

Workshop Team Deliverables:

︎︎︎ 3 Workshops + toolkits
︎︎︎ Yearbook Prototype

Workshop “Curriculum”

To build out the curriculum we leveraged our access to materials, and our team’s expertise to create these workshops.

1.Photography Workshop

Briana Collins and Jenna Agres created Photography guidelines.

2.Campus Collage Workshop

The Nearness Project inspired our team to make collage-kits :a curated, collection of images meant to be shared and collaged. Our team designed these kits to be used in our Campus Collage Workshop.

The image to the left is a snapshot from the Nearness Project’s Instagram showing those kits in use.

3.Poetry Workshop

MXD student Alejandra Silva design and lead the poetry workshop.

The images below records some of the time spent gathering the content for our collage workshop materials.
